Evora for three nights. A quick stop on our way to Spain and the last stop in Portugal. Thinking back on Portugal, a lot of it was centered around wine. It wasn’t planned that way, but after figuring out how economical and good it was to drink here, it became part of our daily routines.
Evora is a town in the Alentajo wine region in Portugal. Days before going we got in touch with a winery we could walk to and scheduled a tour and tasting. We love wine so much and are always up for learning more about it. The winery (Cartuxa) just happened to be the oldest wineries in the country and happened to have one of the most expensive bottles of wine in the country. I will admit that neither of us knew that going into the tasting and tour.
We got there and I think there was two receptionist and one guide, and that was about it. Peaceful, quite, away from the crowds in Lisbon and Porto. Just Katie and I talking with our host while he showed us the vineyard. This was what I like. We tasted three wines, the Sparkling Reserva Brut, Cartuxa Reserva Red, and the Scala Coeli Red, all very good with the Scala Coeli red being my favorite and the Sparklng Katies’. We talked to our guide longer, then he proceeded to give us even more of our favorites…awesome guy. After about two hours we sat underneath the green vines in a nice courtyard, made ourselves some fresh sandwiches, and had some more wine. Talked about life and our travels so far. After having a decent amount of wine we set forth to explore the vineyards and plucked different kinds of grapes on our own. These experiences for me are the best because of the peace. It makes tasting wine, exploring vineyards, and having lunch so much more worth it. We are very lucky in life.
We are staying in a shared 6 bunk bed dorm room hostel in Evora. First night we shared it with some nice frenchies, and then the second night we shared it with some cool Aussies. Each evening we went up to the rooftop and drank wine and relaxed for a few hours. It was all in all a very relaxing stop away from the crowds, which makes for a great time to reflect.
After running our expenses for the first month in Portugal we bought 30 bottles of wine for a 23 day period. NICE!

You guys rock. Glad you just relaxed and enjoyed so many wonderful things in Portugal!
The picture of the vineyard with the tree in the forefront looks like the guy’s home in Gladiator.
